Owen Slim Line Swing Pedal
When we were designing the Owen Slim Line Pedal we took the challenges the mining industry was having with their existing pedals and addressed them.
This unit can also be fitted with either encoders, resolvers and extra switches if required.
We believe the true value in this unit are that it is:
- Virtually maintenance free
- Easily accessible in the cabin – no more cherry pickers, gas masks or the maintenance crew climbing into cavities. The danger element in respect to maintenance is completely removed.
- Designed with ease of serviceability in mind. If there is a need to change over a unit for servicing or replace any of the electrical components, simply unplug the cables, unscrew four bolts and the unit is out!
- Able to be retro-fitted to an older dragline that is not using a current console. For example after a B.E. Gear Box is removed, an adjustable mounting frame can be bolted to the floor using the existing mounting holes. The cable is passed up through the hole where the B.E. Box drive shaft passed through. Our pedal can be retro fitted into electric face shovels as well.
- Easily mounted directly onto one of the new type consoles, (e.g. the Spohn + Burkhardt ) with support arms that have built in tilt adjustment, and the conduit for the cables is ducted through.
- Provision for an extra switch if required.
- Easily maintained because most of the parts used in the Owen Slim Line Pedal are obtained in Australia and have standard fittings. The leather bellows are the only items imported as they are not locally available in the size we require.
- Virtually trouble free for many years, due to the minimum of moving parts in the unit.
- Cost effective and saves many thousands of dollars in lost production as against alternative version breakdowns and cumbersome servicing techniques.
In mid 2007 we had 80 operators test the pedal on the Spohn + Burkhardt Console (these consoles are distributed by NHP Electrical Engineering Pty Ltd), at one of the larger mines in the Bowen Basin here in Qld Australia. They each filled out a questionnaire prepared by an occupational therapist and based on the results of this, they made their decision to purchase the pedal complete with the Console. One of the comments quoted back to us in relation to the pedal was that “its operation was ‘as smooth as silk’”.
As this is a completely different principle to any other pedal, Owen Custom Products have a Patent pending on the design.
